With a career spanning over four decades in the horticulture industry, Matthew DuCharme stands as a testament to dedication and expertise in the field. His journey began with humble roots, engaging in landscape installation work during his high school and college years. This early exposure laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong passion and profession.
Matthew’s academic pursuits led him to Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture, specializing in Landscape Design. This formal education equipped him with a deep understanding of the intricacies of landscape aesthetics and functionality.
His professional career took off in 1989 with McPlants Landscape Install Division, where he honed his skills in landscape installation. In 1991, Matthew transitioned to the Morrell Group as a Landscape Maintenance Account Manager. Here, he showcased his leadership and management prowess, supervising four maintenance and enhancement crews. His portfolio during this period included prestigious properties such as Phipps Plaza, Perimeter Mall, Lenox Mall, Concourse @ Landmark Center, and Hyatt Ravinia Perimeter.
In 1996, Matthew embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding Alternative Environments Landscape Management, Inc. Under his stewardship, the company has flourished, growing from fourteen residential accounts to over 2,000 current customer accounts. This growth is a testament to his vision, leadership, and commitment to excellence in landscape management.
Matthew’s credentials are as impressive as his experience. He is a Certified Arborist, holding a 10-year certification from the International Society of Arboriculture (SO-5708A). Additionally, he possesses a Category 24 Ornamental and Turf and Pest Control License (#16644), including an operator’s license. His expertise is further recognized by his certification from the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Committee (GSWCC Level 1).
Beyond his business endeavors, Matthew is deeply committed to his community. He has been an active member of the City of Douglasville Tree Board since 2018 and is a proud member of the 2021 Class of Leadership Douglas County. His involvement with the West Georgia Green Association further reflects his dedication to promoting sustainable practices in the industry.
